Local businesses and musicians getting ready to rock for 2nd annual Uptown Maumee Music Fest

The two-day festival in Maumee is expected to draw thousands, with several local musicians performing July 3 and on Independence Day.

MAUMEE, Ohio — Maumee is getting ready for its 2nd annual Uptown Maumee Music Fest.

Last year, nearly 6,000 people went to the festival on July 2. Then, between 22,000 and 25,000 people passed by on July 3.

"Maumee loves live music," Uptown Maumee Music Fest coordinator Erin Hyndman said. "It just kind of feels natural to have an event like this."

Hyndman says this year will be exciting and another chance for more people to see what Maumee has to offer, with the thousands of people enjoying Uptown Maumee Music Fest and also visiting local businesses.

The holiday evening on July 4 is one that business owners are especially looking forward to.

"It'll just be a nice opportunity, to check out the patio and just enjoy the music and the weather," Megan McClellan, co-owner of Uptown Fondue + Wine Bar, said.

Uptown Fondue + Wine Bar just opened in April, so owners are thrilled to get a surge of customers.

"It's fun. I like when the streets close down and everyone can just walk around freely from place to place," McClellan said. "It's just really good energy."

Other local businesses like Small Box Music are looking forward to the holiday financial boost.

"The uptown Maumee area, I think has become more and more foot-friendly," Small Box Music owner John Fowler said.

Fowler said the Maumee Uptown Business Association puts on a great event.

"There's always a ton of people walking around uptown, which is always good for any of the businesses here just extra visibility and more people on the streets," Fowler said. "So it's a fun time and it's great for the businesses in the area too."

Multiple local bands are set to perform on both days. They will have about 10 to 13 food trucks on both days.

"It's just a really great thing that seems to be growing," Hyndman said. "When we first started out, we didn't know how this was going to go, and it just had such a great response to it. So, just super excited."

There will also be some important street closures in Uptown Maumee on July 3 and July 4.

Conant Street between Broadway and John streets will close for the entire Uptown Maumee Music Fest and the Fort Meigs Memorial Bridge and Broadway Street in Maumee between Gibbs and Allen Streets will close to car traffic.

Broadway Street and the bridge will reopen when the fireworks display is completed.

There will also be some parking restrictions on some side streets throughout the Uptown district.
