MONROE, Mich. — The Lions' historic season ended as Detroit fell Sunday to the San Francisco 49ers 34-31. Fans from all over Michigan were so excited at the game, and a second-half surge from the 49ers crushed their dreams.
Lions fans who spoke to WTOL 11 in Monroe Monday said they are optimistic as they look forward to next year and hope to build on the success the team achieved this season.
"I thought their success was great, and we made it all there, and I definitely believe that next year we have another chance, and we will see the San Francisco 49ers or whoever is there we'll see them," said David Bijarro, a lifelong Lions fan.
The fans supported the Lions as the success caught people by surprise but also invigorated their love of the team.
Fans far and wide praised the valiant effort the Lions made.
"I love them just like I love my town," said Kendall Trabbic. "We are a strong community like a team, and the love is just as strong for it. It will be just as thick as it has been, hopefully, stronger next year, and we build stronger, and the love continues to grow."
Although the Lions fans are disappointed they didn't make it to the Super Bowl, they are hopeful the team they love will retool for next season and beyond as they come back stronger.
