TOLEDO, Ohio — "Just a great all-around guy, hard worker."
That's how Jeff Warneck, President of United Steelworkers Local 9561, described Steven Daley, who passed away at just 39-years-old this summer.
Friends and family came together for a spaghetti dinner benefit for Daley on Saturday at the United Steelworkers Local 1-346 union hall on Consaul Street in east Toledo.
Daley was a father, husband, military veteran and a United Steelworker.
He was born in New Jersey, but lived in Holland, Ohio in recent years.
He really loved spending time with his family. Especially with his son Carson, and loved coaching his junior football team.
"He really liked football, and he got me into football. And that's the sport I play today," said Carson.
His son says he was a superhero dad.
Daley's friends also reflected on the good times they had with him, and the impression he made on their lives.
John Pierceall is one of Daley's closest friends for 8 years. He says Steven was a great mentor and good friend.
"He had a big heart, he inspired me to have a family, and kind of following in his footsteps of how to be a father," said Pierceall.
Jake Luedtke was one of Daley's best friends at Cleveland Cliffs and he is thankful that the union came together to preserve his memory with Saturday's event.
"It means the world that this union was able to come together as a brotherhood and really bring people's families in and show support for Steve's family and all of us. This is truly a loss," said Luedtke.
Daley's life and legacy will always be remembered.
"He worked really hard. And he was kind, and he cared for everybody a lot, thanks, everybody, for coming that did come. And we will love him forever," said Carson.
Money raised at the spaghetti dinner will go to Daley's family.
