Several county offices close Wednesday due to bed bug

Emails sent across county offices state the offices were closed while staff worked to fumigate the area.

LUCAS COUNTY, Ohio — The discovery of a bed bug prompted the closure of several Lucas County offices in One Government Center Wednesday afternoon.

According to emails sent across county offices, a bed bug was located in the Lucas County Auditor's Office sometime before 11:30 a.m. The auditor's office then closed and the staff left before the office was fumigated, the email said.

The Lucas County Recorder's Office and Lucas County Treasurer's Office also closed due to the incident.

The emails also indicate each of the offices resumed normal operating hours Thursday at 8 a.m.

WTOL 11 requested additional information from the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority, who stated the bug had been located in an office on the sixth floor. Offices on the fifth, sixth and seventh floors were all subsequently closed Wednesday.

Since then, only one bug has been located, the Port Authority spokesperson said. Port Authority facilities are all regularly treated for insects on a monthly basis for preventative measures, the spokesperson said. However, the county has hired an exterminator to spray the offices following the discovery of the bed bug for preventative measures.
