Man dies after falling off Jet Express dock in Port Clinton

Investigators believe he fell off the ramp between the ferry and the dock and hit his head on the hull of the ferry.

PORT CLINTON, Ohio — The Port Clinton News Herald reports that a Cleveland man has died after falling from the Jet Express Dock in Port Clinton into the Portage River on Sunday.

The newspaper says the man was identified as 66-year-old Kevin O'Boyle, who fell into the river as he was leaving a Jet Express ferry from Put-in-Bay around midnight.

An Ottawa County Drug Task Force officer and another man jumped into the water to try to rescue O'Boyle, who were able to pull him from the water.

However, O'Boyle later died at the hospital.

The Port Clinton News Herald says O'Boyle had a large gash on the top of his head from front to back.

Investigators believe he fell off the ramp between the ferry and the dock and hit his head on the hull of the ferry and was pushed out in front of it.
