Man escapes house fire early Friday in north Toledo

At the scene, the homeowner told WTOL 11 he was sleeping when he woke up to his house in flames.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo man is safe after his house caught fire early Friday morning.

The fire broke out around 1 a.m. on the 1700 block of Chestnut Street near Baker Street in north Toledo.

At the scene, the homeowner told WTOL he was sleeping when he woke up to his house in flames.

Toledo Fire & Rescue officials at the scene told WTOL flames were seen coming from the back of the home upon arrival.

The man was able to get out unharmed and is receiving help from the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
