TOLEDO, Ohio — A man who was shot and injured by Toledo police in July after his wife called 911 to report that her husband was armed, intoxicated and threatening to kill himself has been indicted on three counts of aggravated menacing, according to court documents.
A Lucas County grand jury on Tuesday also found that no criminal charges will be filed in the case and no further investigation into the officers who shot at Robert Schaffer at his west Toledo home is necessary.
A press conference held five days after the shooting by Toledo police chief Michael Troendle showed recordings of 911 calls, as well as video from the cruiser dashboard cameras and body cameras of officers on the scene.
Troendle at the press conference released the names of the three officers who were placed on paid leave after firing at Troendle in the early morning hours of July 28: Jacoby Whitaker, 39; Nathan Insley, 24; and Alex Simpson, 28.
