OTTAWA COUNTY, Ohio — One person was seriously injured Monday morning after crashing into a garbage truck while attempting to pass it in Ottawa County.
The crash happened at approximately 6:39 a.m. on State Route 795 west of SR 51 in Clay Township.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 42-year-old driver from Elmore was attempting to pass a Republic-Allied Waste garbage truck on westbound SR 795.
OSHP said the driver of the garbage truck, a 35-year-old from Holland, was turning left into a private drive and was struck by the 42-year-old on the left side. Troopers said both vehicles went off the south side of the roadway.
According to OSHP, the 42-year-old driver had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the garbage truck was treated at the scene with minor injuries.
OSHP said alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash and no charges have been filed at this time.
The crash remains under investigation.
