Manhattan's Pub 'n Cheer celebrates 20 years in business

The Adams Street staple has been part of a resurgent area of Toledo. Owner Zach Leahy said he's looking forward to 20 more years in business.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Manhattan's Pub 'n Cheer on Adams Street in Toledo celebrated 20 years in business on Thursday

"It's been an absolute treasure to be able to have my business here on Adams in Toledo, and the people that have supported us over the last 20 years," owner Zach Leahy said.

The bar has become one of the anchors of the Adams Street corridor, a part of town that used to be much quieter.

"To kind of watch that grow and blossom into what it is now has really been amazing to watch," Leahy said.

In the last 20 years, more people and businesses have come to the area, including Wesley's Bar and Grill.

Owner Micah Risher was at Manhattan's supporting his business neighbor.

"We want people to have a safe time, we want them to support local, to feel welcome, and everyone does it in a different way," Risher said. "Being here is just part of that."

Risher said the factor that makes Adams Street special is the connections people make in the area.

"Passionate about other people's rights, and about community, and about the things that connect us, and not really too worried about the things that hold us down," Risher said.

Business owners hope the next 20 years continue to see good times with great people.

"It's the people that come frequent all the places downtown that really give it the character, and I think seeing that all come together as a unified vision is what we're after," Leahy said.
