TOLEDO, Ohio — All guests attending events at Huntington Center and SeaGate Centre will be required to wear a mask upon entry starting Thursday, Jan. 20.
The policy was announced Friday as COVID-19 cases continue to rise to the highest levels of the pandemic. Free disposable masks will be distributed at the gates.
When asked for clarification, Lucas County Commissioner Pete Gerken informed WTOL 11 that masks are required for entry, and optional but encouraged when not actively eating or drinking.
"We want to create a safe place for our patrons to come in and we feel the best way to do that is to have a mask policy in a place that's so packed and crowded," Gerken said.
Masks will not be required throughout the events once inside, but incentives like giveaways during Toledo Walleye games will be offered to those who continue to wear their masks, according to Gerken.
The policy applies to all events at both locations and will remain in effect until further notice.
Staff will continue to be required to wear masks.
