Masks still a part of daily life as businesses reopen

The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department says wearing a mask can still help to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

It can be itchy and It can be hot but according to the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department, it can also help to prevent the spread of disease.

Many people have been asking if it's still necessary to wear a mask while out of the house. Lucas County Health Commissioner Eric Zgodzinski says wearing a mask while in public is still highly encouraged.

"There's gonna be a point in time we're going to see a reduction in virus in our community," said Zgodzinski. "At that point in time we'll be able to really let go of the things that we're asking people to do; the 6 foot distance and wearing face coverings things of that nature.  But right now, we're not there yet.”

Many retail stores and salons are asking their customers to wear a face covering while entering the building but you might be wondering if it's okay to take off your mask when you're outside at the park.

Zgodzinski says it comes down to common sense.

"If I am out with my child at the playground and only her and, you know, some others playing on the swing way over there, they probably don't have to wear that mask. But then again, if there's 5 or 6 kids running around the playground and yeah you might wanna do that," said Zgodzinski.

The health commissioner wants to remind the community that wearing a face covering is to protect others and ourselves from spreading the virus.

He also says If you so choose to wear a mask, remember to wash your hands before and after putting on the face covering.
