Mercy Health 'optimistic' that strike might end soon

Mercy Health provided the UAW with a new proposal addressing workers' concerns. The union said its reviewing their offer.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Mercy Health has provided workers with a new proposal addressing the UAW's concerns regarding on-call hours and health care coverage.

"While discussions through the mediator continue, Mercy Health is optimistic that its associates will have the opportunity to vote and ratify its most recent offer," a statement from the hospital read.

Over Memorial Day weekend, the UAW and Mercy Health continued their discussions with the assistance of a federal mediator. The union released a statement saying it is reviewing the proposal.

If an agreement is reached, a 10-month negotiation process will end and health care workers will return to work.
