TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz announced Thursday an interim police chief and new city prosecutor.
Assistant Police Chief Michael Troendle will step into the role of interim chief when George Kral retires on Monday. Troendle has 29 years of experience with the department.
"I know that stepping into this responsibility will add a lot of extra duties for me - and there will be times I'll be taken away from my family - but in the end I've never been someone that wants to stand on the sidelines," he said. "And as we start to move forward, I feel like our department and our citizens deserve a leader that will continue to lead them into the future, improve on our services, and make the city better."
Troendle has been assistant chief since July 2018 and serves as Chief Kral's proxy on numerous boards and community groups. In that role, he is responsible for policies and procedures, personnel, accreditation, budgeting and purchasing, hiring and promoting, trainings and officer wellness.
He is a graduate of Tiffin University and the FBI National Academy in Virginia. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves from 1993-1999.
Also Thursday, Kapszukiewicz announced Rebecca Facey as new city prosecutor.
Facey is a graduate of DePaul University in Chicago and the University of Toledo. She worked in the Lucas County Prosecutor's Office since 2014 as an assistant prosecuting attorney.
Facey has also been a professor at Bowling Green State University.
“I am a proud Toledoan and honored to serve my City as the Chief Prosecutor,” Facey said. “We are fortunate to have a strong and talented group of attorneys representing the residents of Toledo and the City prosecutor’s office. I am eager to work with each of them as we strive to bring truth, justice and safety to our community.”
Facey is also active in the community. She has served on the city's charter review committee and the board of directors for Women of Toledo.
She has also been a mentor for Mom's House.
