MONROE, Mich. — According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, a 52-year-old man from Bedford, Michigan was arrested Friday, Jan. 5 after allegedly making terrorist threats.
The sheriff's office was notified of 'statements of harm' made by the suspect. The suspect claimed that he had the means to carry out the threats that he was making.
According to a press statement, the suspect told police that he would "not be taken out in handcuffs," and that he was "writing a manifesto." The suspect also claimed to have a ballistic vest and threatened that he would livestream the incident on Facebook.
Following an incident investigation, an arrest warrant and a search warrant for the suspect's residence were obtained by authorities. The suspect was then taken into custody without incident.
During the search of the residence, evidence including weapons and several ballistic vests were located and seized.
Threat specifics and who or what the threats were aimed towards are currently unknown.
Authorities later named the suspect on Monday, identifying him as 52-year-old James Yonts following an arraignment on the charge of False Report or Threat of Terrorism. A judge set Yonts' bond at $500,000.
