TOLEDO, Ohio — The Martin Luther King Bridge in Toledo reopened to traffic Wednesday night after authorities shut it down earlier in the day due to what a Michigan post of the U.S. Coast Guard called a "possible drowning" in the Maumee River.
The Coast Guard told WTOL 11 it received a call at about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday about a person struggling in the water and going below the waterline.
According to a Toledo police report, shoes and a jacket were located directly above where the person was last seen.
The Coast Guard told WTOL 11 it was not told how the person got into the water.
Along with the Coast Guard, crews from the Toledo Fire & Rescue Department and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources were seen searching in the water throughout the afternoon and evening following the closure.
