MONROE COUNTY, Mich. — A motorcyclist died and two others were hospitalized in serious condition Tuesday after a crash in Monroe County, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Troy Wheatcraft, 59, of Port Charlotte, Fla., was riding a motorcycle northbound on Telegraph Road just north of Monroe Tuesday afternoon when he entered the intersection with Mall Road, the sheriff's office said.

The 18-year-old driver of an SUV driving southbound on Telegraph Road was turning into a parking lot at the intersection and struck Wheatcraft's motorcycle, knocking him off of it.

Wheatcraft was not wearing a helmet and was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the sheriff's office.

The SUV overturned in the crash and came to rest on its roof. The driver and the 48-year-old passenger, both from Michigan, were taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The crash remains under investigation by Lieutenant Brian Quinn and Deputy Sheriffs Cody Carena and Steven Warren of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division, the sheriff's office said in a press release. Anyone with information is asked to call 734-240-7541.
