Motorcyclist killed in Fulton County crash

OSHP said a Michigan woman failed to yield the right of way from a stop sign and pulled out in front of a motorcycle operated by a 55-year-old Swanton man.

FULTON COUNTY, OHIO, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after a Swanton motorcyclist was struck and killed in Fulton County Monday afternoon.

The crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 10 and County Road D in York Township.

According to OSHP, a 23-year-old Michigan woman was traveling southbound in a Chevrolet Equinox on County Road 10 when she failed to yield the right of way from the stop sign and pulled into the path of a motorcycle operated by John Schofield, 55, of Swanton, who was traveling westbound on County Road D.

OSHP said Schofield attempted to lay down his motorcycle to avoid the vehicle but struck the driver's side of the Equinox. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

According to OSHP, Schofield was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. OSHP said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
