Woman slips out of handcuffs, steals MSP patrol car leading troopers on chase

Troopers said a woman who was under arrest on Saturday evening slipped out of her handcuffs and stole an MSP patrol vehicle.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A woman is in custody after stealing a Michigan State Police patrol vehicle and leading troopers on a chase on Saturday night, according to MSP

MSP said troopers from the Grand Rapids post responded to a domestic call around 8:30 p.m. 

According to MSP, while they were arresting a woman, she began to struggle with a trooper and bit them. 

While the trooper was addressing more people on the scene, the woman who was under arrest slipped out of her handcuffs and stole the MSP patrol vehicle. 

MSP said additional units chased the stolen vehicle, which eventually crashed, and they took the woman into custody. 

13 ON YOUR SIDE was at the scene and the MSP patrol car had to be towed out of a swamp in Bridgeton Township. 

Troopers said she was taken to jail with additional charges. 

The trooper was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. 

MSP said the incident is still under investigation and any updates will be posted to their Twitter account
