Napoleon's finance director returns to work after being placed on administrative leave

Kevin Garringer was placed on leave on Oct. 21 "while an investigation was conducted into a matter involving the Finance Department."

NAPOLEON, Ohio — The City of Napoleon's finance director has returned to work just days after being placed on paid administrative leave, according to council president John Ross Durham.

Kevin Garringer was placed on leave on Oct. 21 "while an investigation was conducted into a matter involving the Finance Department." He was cleared to return to work on Oct. 25, according to a press release from Durham.

The HR director for the city said WTOL 11's request for Garringer's personnel and disciplinary files was too broad. WTOL 11 has made a more specific request and is waiting to hear back.

Durham provided the following statement in the press release from Oct. 25:

The Napoleon City Council takes all claims seriously and believes it is essential to protect both the integrity of our City and the individuals involved.

The decision was made with careful consideration, ensuring a fair and unbiased investigation process, while protecting all parties involved. After conducting our due diligence, we are pleased to announce that we have full confidence in Kevin's return to his role as Finance Director for the City of Napoleon. The Napoleon City Council stands firmly behind him and appreciates his unwavering professionalism and cooperation throughout this process.

We want to express our sincere gratitude to Kevin for his dedication and commitment to the City of Napoleon during this time. We look forward to his return and his continued management of our financial operations.
