MONROE COUNTY, Michigan — A 33-Newport woman was killed in Frenchtown Township early Monday when she was struck by a semitractor-trailer while walking along North Monroe Street, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office reported.
The incident happened when Rory Tobin, 33, was wearing dark clothing while walking in the lane of traffic along North Monroe Street just north of Santure Road shortly before 2:30 a.m., according to the sheriff's report.
A 2019 Freightliner semitractor-trailer was headed north on the street when the truck struck Tobin, the report said. Tobin was then struck by a second vehicle headed southbound on the street, the sheriff's report said.
Tobin was pronounced dead at the scene, the report said.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and no other injuries were reported. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, the report said.
The incident remains under investigation by Lt. Brian Quinn and deputies Nicholas Burkhart and Cody Carena of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division. Anyone with information is asked to call 734-240-7557.
