No injuries reported after west Toledo house fire Monday night, but death of family dog reported

No one was home at the time of the fire and the cause is under investigation. One adult and five children have temporary housing through Red Cross.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A fire is under investigation after flames engulfed a west Toledo home.

Toledo Fire & Rescue Department crews responded Monday night to the 4000 block of Peak Ave. to the call. Neighbors saw fire coming out of the front of the home. No one was home at the time of the fire.

Crews were on the scene at 10:51 p.m. and saw heavy fire coming from the front room of the two-story home, extending to the front porch.

TFRD reports water was on the fire at 10:52 p.m. and the main body of the fire was extinguished quickly after crews gained entry into the house. An all-clear was reported at 11:01 p.m.

During the search of the structure, the family's dog was discovered dead on the second floor of the home. 

The fire was under control at 11:06 p.m.

The Red Cross was contacted and is assisting with temporary housing for one adult and five children. 

There were no reports of any civilian or firefighter injuries. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and an investigator is looking into the cause. If you have any information pertaining to this incident please contact Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111.
