Authorities say the plane was trying to make an emergency landing when it wrecked near a runway, killing all on board.

VIENNA, Ohio — Three people are dead following a plane crash Friday evening at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport in Trumbull County.

All three occupants — one pilot and two passengers — were killed.

The pilot has been identified as 54-year-old Jawdat Khawam of Laval, Quebec. The two passengers have been identified as 45-year-old Martine Aresenault and 8-year-old Daphne Khawam, both also from Laval, Quebec.

The Federal Aviation Administration is set to conduct an investigation of the incident, and at this time the OHSP states a mechanical failure is believed to be the culprit. Members of the Howland Police Department, Vienna Police Department, Trumbull County Sheriff's Office, and Vienna Fire Department assisted troopers at the scene.
