Passenger run over after falling out of vehicle in Erie County

Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor, authorities said.

VERMILION, Ohio — A Cleveland man was run over by a vehicle in Vermilion after falling out of it on Tuesday night.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred when a Huron man was driving a 1995 Dodge Ram with a malfunctioning passenger side door and pulled out of the Patio Tavern Bar heading east on U.S. 6

The man's passenger, a 46-year-old from Cleveland, was not wearing a seat belt and fell out of the vehicle as the vehicle entered the road. 

Per the release, the Huron man drove over the Cleveland man before stopping on the right side of the road.

Vermilion Township EMS transported the man to Firelands Hospital, and he was later life-flighted to Cleveland Metro for his injuries.

Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the incident, and an investigation remains ongoing.
