ODNR installs Toledo's first earthquake detection device

The installation is unrelated to the Cleveland area earthquake that struck on Monday.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources installed the first ever earthquake detecting device in the Toledo area on Tuesday.

This isn't because of Monday's earthquake near Cleveland. It's just a coincidence with the timing.

The equipment is at the Blue Creek Metropark in Whitehouse.

Representatives of ODNR said there's a fault line that runs right through the Toledo area.

"The Bowling Green fault is very near by here, we haven't had any earthquakes occurring in that we've known about. You never know, we could pick up some really mircro-sized waves; that's some of the reason we're here we don't have much coverage in this part of the state so we're installing the seismometer to see what we can find," seismologist Jeff Fox said.

Monday's earthquake near Cleveland registered at a 4.2 magnitude.
