CLEVELAND — A Westlake man is facing charges after allegedly crashing into an ODOT construction zone in Northeast Ohio.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the incident happened on Saturday, Nov. 16, just before 3 a.m. on I-490 in Cleveland.
"The initial investigation revealed that a 2009 BMW 330i was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-490 when it struck a parked, unoccupied 2024 Western Star 4700 dump truck in an active construction zone," said a spokesperson for Ohio State Highway Patrol.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, ODOT Cleveland posted a video of the alleged drunk driver entering a construction work zone on I-490 that was fully closed to traffic.
In the video, which can be watched below, an ODOT intern is seen jumping out of the way to avoid being struck by the wrong-way driver.
Officials say that the driver, identified as Bradley Cochrane, fled the scene, but was later caught by Ohio State Highway Patrol. He was taken to MetroHealth with minor injuries.
Cochrane was charged with OVI and driving the wrong way on divided roadways.
