Ohio Supreme Court suspends Toledo lawyer for alleged ethical violations

The court on Thursday suspended Sarah Driftmyer from practicing law for one year. She was previously suspended in 2018 for six months.

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Ohio Supreme Court has suspended a Toledo lawyer from practicing for the second time in five years.

Sarah Driftmyer was suspended Thursday for one year for multiple ethical violations while representing clients, according to a court document.

The Toledo Bar Association in 2023 accused Driftmyer of failing to provide competent representation, engaging in dishonest conduct, knowingly making a false statement in a municipal court proceeding, improperly handling a client's advanced-fee payment, failing to inform two different clients that she did not carry professional-liability insurance and knowingly failing to respond to an investigation of her misconduct, according to the document.

On top of the suspension, the court ordered Driftmyer to pay $250 in restitution to a client she had a payment dispute with.

If Driftmyer is reinstated to practicing law, she must serve one year of monitored probation.

Her previous suspension was ordered in December 2018 for six months.

In that suspension, the court said Driftmyer failed to provide diligent representation to a client, failed to maintain and utilize a client trust account, failed to inform a client she did not carry professional-liability insurance, failed to maintain a copy of her written fee agreement with that client and failed to respond in a timely manner to an investigation of her misconduct.
