OTTAWA COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle crash on Friday, Jan. 19 in Ottawa County.
The accident occurred on State Route 2, east of West Camp Perry Western in Erie Township. It is unknown what time the crash happened.
According to investigators, Jeff Bauer, a 59-year-old from Castalia, Ohio, was driving a Ford F-150 eastbound on State Route 2 when he ran his vehicle off the road. Veering right, Bauer drove through a farm field, paintball range and into a tree line. He struck multiple paintball obstacles and two trees before the truck came to a stop.
According to authorities, Bauer was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. He died as a result of the incident.
Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash.
