Oregon homeowners offered acquisition and relocation program due to potential industrial developments

The Oregon Economic Development Foundation sent letters last week to homeowners regarding developments happening on Blue Heron Drive.

OREGON, Ohio —

Some Oregon homeowners received letters offering to buy their homes last week.

The Oregon Economic Development Foundation has used West Erie Realty Solutions to head the acquisition and relocation program.

Homeowners north of Corduroy Road, east of Lallendorf Road and west of Wynn Road are expected to be impacted by the potential development.

"My dad built this house," homeowner Marty Czyzewski said. "He took pride in building, and I took pride in doing the flowers and the bushes and things like that and keeping everything trimmed. "

Now Czyzewski is considering selling the house his father built over 20 years ago, the one he once planned to retire in. There has been no indication of what the development would be, but the acquisition is voluntary.

"However, the ODEF recognizes the likely impacts a potential new development would have on its closest neighbors," the letter said.

"Either you put the house up for sale and move to someplace quiet or you live here and chance of having a factory in your backyard," Czyzewski said.

The industrial developments are set to happen on Blue Heron Drive. To help those who live in the area, the ODEF is offering an appraisal, in which they will match that price, as well as give homeowners an additional 25% of the appraised value for their home.

Czyzewski said he received the letter last week, and is going to have an appraisal done later this week.

"It's happening very, very quick, which kind of startles me a little bit," Czyzewski said. "My impression is, when they are moving things that quick – what are they up to?"

Czyzewski said doesn't want to sell his home, but is interested in the offer so he would not have to deal with the noise and the construction.

Homeowners are meeting with the Oregon City Council Monday to discuss the program.

Property owners were also offered two private meetings with the real estate group to discuss the potential development.
