City of Oregon asking for public input on 10-year comprehensive plan

The city said their current plan is nearly 20 years old.

OREGON, Ohio — Chances are if you plan to live in a city for an extended number of years, you may have some creative ideas on how to make it feel more like home. If the city you live in is Oregon, Wednesday is your opportunity to share those ideas.

The city of Oregon is holding an open house for its 10-year comprehensive plan. During the open house, city residents are invited to attend this free public meeting to voice their ideas and concerns.

The meeting will take place Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the new Buffalo Rock Brewing Company location at 5002 Seaman Rd. During the event, residents are encouraged to ask questions and provide input on developments and improvements they hope to see in the city.

City leaders said a comprehensive plan helps set a vision. They said they hope the open house will include productive discussions on the following topics:

  • Industrial development
  • Commercial development
  • Housing developing
  • Enhancing parks and recreation

The meeting will be held at the city's new brewing company in hopes that the gathering will be comfortable and fun.

"It's interactive, so everyone will walk around and provide input on what the city provides," said Oregon City Administrator Joel Mazura. "Parks and recreation, safety services and new developments, among other things. What we will be doing is talking to the public, listening to them, getting their input on what they want to see happen in the city."

City leaders said the plan definitely needs a revamp - after all, the plan it would be replacing is nearly two decades old.

"The cities old comprehensive plan is almost 20 years old. So, it is a little overdue on being updated. The idea here is to update this plan modernize it, and get the input from the public," said Mazura.

The open house kicks off Wednesday at 6 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m.
