OTTAWA COUNTY, Ohio — Ottawa County’s proximity to the lake has always ensured the importance of outdoor activity and recreation to its residents, but it wasn’t until recently that the county’s park district secured funding to help protect that legacy.

In 2020, voters approved a 10-year-operating levy for the Park District of Ottawa County to make improvements to the county’s outdoor spaces.

Within a few years the Park District announced the creation of West Harbor Preserve, the organization’s first county park, out of land donated by the Black Swamp Conservancy.

Now the Park District is asking residents to help them decide where they should put their attention and resources next.

The Park District of Ottawa County Community Input Survey gives community members an opportunity to grade the performance of the Park District, share ideas for amenities, and rate 13 goals the Park District has set for the current levy period.

Some of these goals include:

  • developing new park sites and preserving natural spaces
  • continuing to award parks and trails improvement grants to political subdivisions, public schools and public libraries,
  • preserving natural resources in the county
  • improving water access in the Portage River corridor

Anyone interested in filling out the survey can visit this link through November 29.

Alternatively, residents can pick up a paper copy of the survey at the Park District of Ottawa County office at 3979 E Knoll Crest Drive in Port Clinton or by calling (419) 707-4051.

The survey is being conducted by Environmental Design Group out of Akron, who the county hired in May to work on a strategic plan.

If you have any questions you are asked to call or email Executive Director Jannah Wilson at (419) 707-4051 and/or jwilson@ottawacountyparksoh.org.
