Ottawa County sheriff holding forum to answer questions about immigration

Sheriff Steve Levorchick says the forum will not be a political forum but rather is intended to get informed answers to concerned citizens' questions.

PORT CLINTON, Ohio — The Ottawa County Sheriff's office is organizing a community forum - with other area law enforcement agencies- to try to answer questions from people who are concerned about immigration issues in the county.

Sheriff Steve Levorchick says he and his deputies have been receiving multiple complaints from citizens on the topic but they don’t have all the answers.

He says the forum is the best way to get questions answered from agencies that deal with immigration issues every day.

"The questions can be asked at that time with, hopefully, the people who have the answers,” said Levorchick. “Local law enforcement, we don't have anything to do with immigration or dealing with any immigrants that are either illegal or here on whether it be a visa or any other means.”

Levorchic says he expects the event to draw close to 300 people.

He also says the event is in no way intended to be a political forum but is rather intended to get answers for citizens.

The event is scheduled for Monday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Liberty Aviation Building on East State Road in Port Clinton. The Ottawa County Sheriffs office says the public is encouraged to attend the forum.
