TPS student transportation deadline approaching, here's what parents need to know

Families with children new to the district, who have moved, or are part of a magnet school must call their school to sign up for transportation services.

TOLEDO, Ohio — The first day of school is weeks away and Toledo Public Schools wants you to know there is a deadline to sign kids up for transportation services.

Families with children new to the district, who have moved, or are part of a magnet school must call their school to sign up for transportation.

Cindy Fox, the Senior Director of Transportation for TPS, shared why it's important to make sure families sign their children up.

"We know it's hard for many students to get to school. Either they don't have a way to get to school, their parents don't have cars, or we have working parents. But we have such a transient population, too."

Parents of preschool students with disabilities must contact the Early Childhood Special Education Office.

Parents of K-12 students with disabilities must contact the Student Assistance Center.

If a child is not signed up for classes by August 9, it could take up to two weeks for them to get processed. This is due to TPS wanting to maintain continuity in their schedules in order to maintain schedules and stay on track.

Fox explained that it's very essential for kids to have transportation.

"We're doing that so our bus drivers have a consistent bus route when they come in for the first week of school. What was happening before was that every single day, their routes were changing, so it was making it to the point where we could not be logistically efficient; we couldn't run routes on time," said Fox.

TPS offers different options for students to get to school. You can find more information about their transportation services HERE.
