Residents in south Toledo neighborhood concerned over kids reportedly shooting Orbeez at random

Residents of the Beverly neighborhood are concerned about the incidents where people say they were hit by the Orbeez. Some worry about what may happen next.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Residents in the Beverly neighborhood in south Toledo said they have seen a group of kids going around the neighborhood with fake guns shooting frozen Orbeez beads at strangers.

One parent went on Facebook and expressed their concerns about the situation on a Beverly locals page.

Other members of the page also commented as well, agreeing with the parent.

Beverly resident April Rumschlag said she along with other parents in the neighborhood are feeling conflicted as they want their kids to have a fun summer but they don't want them to become a target.

"If my kids wanted to come down to the park, usually we would be fine with it," Rumschlag said. "But with what's going on right now, I'm a little more uneasy about it."

Residents said the kids are freezing these small beads making for a harder impact when shooting them.

Another Beverly resident, Gary Prater, said he saw one of the kids with an Orbeez gun walking down the street and worries this situation could escalate.

"People don't like guns, carrying guns around even though it's a toy," Prater said. "They get a little funny and try to be funny and other people don't take it that way."

A parent who didn't want to talk on camera said they had also seen the kids walking around in the neighborhood targeting innocent children and bystanders.

"It's sad only because the parents know about it and then the parents don't care about it," the parent said. "I feel like, what are they going to do once they get a real gun in their hand?"

One of the residents said they spoke with one of the kid's parents in hopes of getting them to stop.

Another resident said in the Facebook post that they had filed a police report.

WTOL 11 has yet to find out from the Toledo Police Department if this report has been received.
