MONROE COUNTY, Michigan — A man jogging in Monroe County Wednesday afternoon and was hit and killed by a train after he tried to cross the tracks while the gates were down and the lights were flashing, according to authorities.
Robert Moore, 36, of Monroe, was jogging west on Mall Road near the Mall of Monroe around 1:18 p.m. when he crossed the railroad tracks to the gates on the west side, turned around and began jogging back the direction he came. The southbound train then struck him, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said in a press release on Wednesday.
Moore was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff's office says alcohol is "an unknown factor in the collision" and the incident is under investigation.
