Perrysburg businesses optimistic about end-of-year sales, looking forward to new year

Many local businesses try to ensure merchandise gets purchased as the end of the fiscal season nears so space for new inventory is clear.

PERRYSBURG, Ohio — The end of the year is an important time for businesses as many people return home for the holidays. Following Christmas, many businesses begin marking down their prices in an effort to clear out inventory.

"The week after Christmas is great because we have such a great clientele that take all of their holiday decor down and they can't wait for fresh and new," said Rory Fessler, the owner of Olde Stable and Co. in downtown Perrysburg.

Fessler and many other local business owners are at a crucial point of the year. Reaching the end of their fiscal season, many make an effort to ensure that the merchandise gets purchased to ensure a successful year financially and make room as they transition into the spring season.

"We cannot exist without our customer base and this community, and the surrounding areas have been so loyal to us and obviously they are looking for a bargain as we all are. So, we're offering that bargain," said Emily Fall, the owner of Kids Klothesline in downtown Perrysburg.

Fall said one of the largest contributors is people who visit from out of town, and she said that one of the store's busiest seasons happens the week right after Christmas.

“We have a lot of out-of-town folks, kids who come back to see mom and dad who still live in the area, and of course, we are having our after-Christmas sale so there’s lots of good things to still choose from and a lot of people get money-so they want to come and spend it," she said.

From hosting events to large markdowns, local owners say they're thankful to the community for the continued support.

"As a small business in such a big city, to be able to offer handmade goods to customers is great," Fessler said. It's phenomenal. I go home blessed every day."

Moving into the new year, both Fessler and Fall said they plan to keep extra merchandise at a discounted rate and are looking forward to the new season.
