TIFFIN, Ohio — Tiffin community members have gathered to create a fundraiser that supports the Humane Society of Seneca County.
The Pet Walk of Fame lets pet owners buy a star for their pet that will be displayed on the sidewalks of downtown Tiffin.
The idea is to replicate the Hollywood Walk of Fame but instead, it's animals of all shapes and sizes.
Tiffin resident Susan Wilkinson is one of the Pet Walk of Fame committee members.
"Community members will purchase a star, it will have your pet's picture, their name and then the owner's name if you choose and where they come from," Wilkinson said.
Mark Levans, the owner of MLAD Advertising, along with Nan Sauber and Tiffin city council member Cheyanne Thacker, are all a part of the committee as well and will be putting the stars on the sidewalk for the month of July.
The money will go toward a new roof for the Humane Society of Seneca County. The roof costs over $50,000.
Angela Leonard, operations manager of the Humane Society of Seneca County, said community members who create projects like this help the shelter tremendously.
"We have to focus on the animals and all the care that they need," Leonard said. "And we're just blessed to have the community stepping up to help on the backside with other projects."
Wilkinson said even people who do not own pets can still purchase stars and support the cause.
"If you're not a pet owner and you want to donate to this cause, you can adopt a star which means your money would go toward a star for a pet that's adoptable from the humane society and those will be special stars that say 'adopt me,'" Wilkinson said.
So far, over 100 stars have been purchased and over $3,000 has been raised. The fundraiser will be available until June 17.
