UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Police provided an update Friday after an overturned vehicle was recovered from the Scioto River last weekend.
A fisherman discovered the vehicle underwater on the morning of July 6, calling first responders to the area of Riverside Drive and Lane Road, located in Upper Arlington.
Columbus Division of Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Geitter said the fisherman discovered the vehicle on his sonar about 15 feet below the surface and saw an opening in the trees where a car may have gone in.
Rescue divers located the vehicle underwater and determined it had been there "for a while" due to silt buildup.
The divers did not locate a body, Geitter said. However, he added that the incident did not happen in the last "survivable amount of time."
In the update, police said they were able to raise the majority of the vehicle and remove it from the water. At this time, they said there are no links found to missing people or crimes.
It is believed that the vehicle is a 1974 Plymouth Valiant and has potentially been in the water for over three decades.
