ROCKY RIDGE, Ohio — The Ottawa County Sheriff’s office said an explosive device was found in a rural area of the county on Saturday.
Deputies say two people were magnet fishing when they found what looked like a “pipe bomb” in the area of State Route 590 and West Toussaint North Road just north of Rocky Ridge around 5:30 p.m.
The Northwest Ohio Bomb Squad was contacted by the sheriff’s office to assist in the investigation and determined the object was an explosive device.
State Route 590 was closed in the area while the bomb squad neutralized the device. According to a Toledo police report made available Monday, the device was "fully intact" upon its discovery, and was vented to render it safe.
Jason Vanderwal and Randy Burns are two of the fishermen that make up Motor City Magnet Fishers, who post their work on YouTube at this link.
