Man charged with vehicular homicide in multi-vehicle crash that killed one Sunday

Tyrone Hoy, 36, is also charged with vehicular assault and failure to comply for the west Toledo crash that killed 22-year-old Micah Hicks.

TOLEDO, Ohio — An Illinois man has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide after a three-car crash in west Toledo killed one person during a police pursuit on the evening of Nov. 19.

Tyrone Hoy, 36, is also charged with vehicular assault and failure to comply with orders of a police officer for the crash at the busy Douglas Road and Monroe Street intersection that killed 22-year-old Micah Hicks, of Detroit.

A Lucas County Grand Jury indicted Hoy Nov. 30 on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular assault and failing to comply with orders of a police officer.

Toledo police at the scene told WTOL 11 officers were chasing a stolen vehicle with two occupants -- Hoy and Hicks -- on Monroe Street when it ran a red light at an intersection and hit a car that was northbound on Douglas Road just after 7:30 p.m., injuring the sole occupant who was hospitalized.

Hoy's vehicle then slid into a person who was entering their vehicle, injuring and hospitalizing them, too, before continuing to slide and then hitting a pole, causing Hicks to be ejected from the vehicle and killing her

Hicks' identity was confirmed through fingerprints by the Lucas County Coroner's Office on Monday.

Hoy was also injured in the crash and hospitalized.

Both Monroe Street and Douglas Road were closed down at the intersection for much of the evening.
