OREGON, Ohio — UPDATE: Nearly all power has been restored as of 2 p.m., according to FirstEnergy's outage map.
The original story is below:
A power outage is affecting parts of Oregon, Ohio Thursday afternoon.
More than 5,000 customers are without power in Oregon, according to FirstEnergy's website.
The outage included Clay High School and the Oregon City Board of Education Administration Offices, according to the district's Facebook page. Phone lines in the school are also down throughout the entire district.
The district made an additional post at 12:53 p.m. stating power had returned to both buildings, but that phones remained down throughout the district.
"Students are in class and are not affected," the first post read. "Classes are proceeding as normal."
WTOL 11 reached out to St. Charles Mercy Hospital. A hospital spokesperson said hospital power is operating normally, but they have generators in the case of an outage.
According to FirstEnergy's website, the estimated time of power restoration is 2 p.m. FirstEnergy's site also states it is preparing for crew assessment to remedy the outage.
WTOL 11 has reached out to FirstEnergy for comment. FirstEnergy offered the following statement:
"Our crews are working to determine the cause of the outage in that area. It affected a total of about 5,000 customers, however we’re in the process of isolating the issue and restoring as many customers as possible as we work on repairs this afternoon."
