TOLEDO, Ohio — Jonathon Hargrove has been arrested after a reckless homicide warrant was issued for him for the February 16 death of 18-year-old Andrew Wheeler.

Hargrove was arrested by the Lucas County Sheriff's Office on July 1, the same date the warrant was issued for him.

Wheeler's mother said Wheeler and one of his best friends were at the house on Merle Street, planning on playing Fortnite.

The best friend had the gun, took a clip out and racked the gun, and there was still a bullet in the chamber. The gun went off somehow, she said, and shot Wheeler in the neck.

Wheeler was in the hospital on life support for about a week before he died.

Wheeler's mother said the shooting was an accident at the time; when Wheeler died, Toledo Police said they would be working with the coroner and prosecutor's office to determine if and what charges would be filed.

The best friend took off running after Wheeler was shot, but was eventually questioned by police.

The gun was not stolen but also was not registered to the friend.

Hargrove will appear in court on July 8 at 9 a.m.
