Registration open for 3rd annual Snow Angels Shoveling Program in Toledo

The program pairs volunteers with nearby residents to assist with snow removal on sidewalks and driveways.

TOLEDO, Ohio — The city of Toledo announced Tuesday that registration is open for its third annual Snow Angels Shoveling Program.

The city said the community-driven program pairs volunteers with nearby residents to assist with snow removal on sidewalks and driveways and is seeking more volunteers to meet the growing demand.

Those interested in becoming a "Snow Angel" or needing assistance are encouraged to register by Dec. 2 at this link.

The city said that not only does the program ensure the safety of residents during inclement weather, but also maintains clear pathways for mail carriers, firefighters, police officers and neighbors.

“We are grateful for the support of our generous residents and community partners, which has helped last year’s program thrive. This season, participation is already growing, but with increasing demand, we urgently need more volunteers,” Valerie Fatica, disability manager with the city said. “Hundreds of neighbors would benefit from this service—sign up to be a Snow Angel today and help make a meaningful impact in your neighborhood.”

The city of Toledo shared statistics and notes from last season's Snow Angels program:

  • 633 participants, with 80 volunteers serving up to 10 homes each
  • 242 residents served across the city
  • Volunteers came as far as Holgate to support the effort
  • Some volunteers helped out at their assigned homes beyond snow removal due to a lack of major snowfalls
  • There is a need for backup volunteers

"The City of Toledo invites all residents to participate in the Snow Angels Program and play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for their neighbors. Together, we can create a winter wonderland that is not only beautiful but also safe and accessible for everyone," the city said.
