1 dead, 1 injured in Williams County house explosion

At this time, it is unclear what may have caused the explosion.

WILLIAMS COUNTY, Ohio — One person is dead and another injured following a reported house explosion in Williams County Monday.

Rescue crews with the Northwest Twp. Fire Department responded to the scene in the 6900 block of County Road Q50 around 4:29 p.m.

The Williams County coroner said a male victim died as a result of the explosion. The man has not yet been identified.

A second person —  a female described as the man's significant other — was able to be rescued by the fire department. She suffered injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening.

At this time, it is unclear what may have caused the explosion. However, officials say a propane leak cannot be ruled out as the cause. It is not believed there was any criminal intent or foul play involved in the incident.

The Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office says the plan going forward will be to conduct a joint scene exam with the insurance company investigators using heavy equipment to excavate the structure and try to determine where the explosion originated.

This is a developing story.
