Troopers investigating fatal crash involving two vehicles Friday morning

The crash occurred at approximately 5:40 a.m., authorities said in a press release.

SENECA COUNTY, Ohio — One person was killed and another suffered serious injuries after a crash involving two vehicles in Seneca County early Friday. 

According to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, an investigation demonstrated that a 2011 Nissan Frontier was traveling southbound on State Route 53 near County Road 38 at approximately 5:40 a.m. The driver of the Frontier traveled left of center and then struck a 2018 Ford Fusion traveling northbound.

OSHP troopers responded to the scene, where they were assisted by the Seneca County Sheriff's Office, the Ohio Department of Transportation and several other agencies. 

The driver of the Fusion, 56-year-old John P. Lunsford of Bucyrus, was fatally injured at the scene.

The driver of the Frontier was taken to the hospital via air ambulance for what authorities described in the press release as serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation, OSHP said.
