MONROE, Mich — The Monroe County Sheriff's Office reported an incident that occurred on the campus of the Monroe County Intermediate School District (ISD) on South Rainsville Road on Friday, Oct. 25.

According to authorities, a sergeant assigned to the school was alerted by staff members to a man outside the school building acting erratic. The sergeant reportedly located the man in a rear parking lot of the school and engaged in conversation with him. The report indicates that the sergeant became concerned by the movements and gestures the man was making, making him think the suspicious man may have been armed.

The man was later identified by authorities as an employee of ISD.

The sheriff's department stated that upon the arrival of additional units, the suspicious man began walking southbound down Rainsville Road off of the school's property, and the sergeant followed in suit.

Investigators stated that the man then entered an occupied, unlocked residence in the 1100 block of South Rainsville Road. Inside the residence were three victims; two women and a man.

Investigators report that once inside the residence, the suspect barricaded himself inside a bedroom with one of the female victims.

Deputies said they surrounded the residence and made entry into the home, where they began hostage negotiations with the suspect. Deputies said they ultimately forced entry into the bedroom, rescuing the woman and taking the suspect into custody.

Authorities report the man was taken into custody for home invasion without further incident.

The man's identity is being withheld pending formal charges.

One of the female victims was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The case remains under investigation by the Monroe County Detective Bureau. Anyone with information is asked to contact 734-240-7530.
