TOLEDO, Ohio —
Small-business owners gathered at the Lucas County Main Library in downtown Toledo on Tuesday, Jan. 23 to learn more about financial resources available to help grow their businesses.
The small-business town hall was hosted by Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, D-Toledo. A panel of different county directors were also present along with Geri Anglipay, the Small Business Administration Great Lakes administrator for northwest Ohio.
With about four-dozen attendees, the town hall was the first of multiple events Kaptur wants to host leading up to small business week on April 28 through May 4 of this year.
"What America makes and grows, makes and grows America," Kaptur told attendees.
Following the pandemic, Kaptur acknowledged that there has been a lot of growth for small businesses, and she wants to help facilitate this.
The event showcased different grant and loan programs that local business owners have access to.
One of the attendees was Marty Rini, a senior counselor with SCORE. SCORE provides free resources and helps to educate growing businesses in northwest Ohio.
"I'm just trying to get a better understanding of the greater northwest Ohio and the other organizations involved in supporting small business," Rini said.
Rini explained that he partakes in a lot of referrals, so the more information he has, the more he can pass on to the people that he assists.
Erin Curley, CEO and architect, said these events not only benefits her business, but also the clients she serves.
"Attending events like this really helps because it allows us to have a better understanding of what the state is providing at minimal to no cost," Curley said.
Curley stated that one of the biggest struggles small businesses face is financing, but events like this town hall help her know the different options available.
Congresswoman Kaptur said there will be more information and updates for future events on her website.
