Some Americans still waiting for stimulus check

Those that have not received a check yet are advised to keep checking the IRS' "Get My Payment" website to check their status.

OHIO, USA — If you haven't received you're stimulus check yet, you're not alone.

Thousands of Americans are still waiting and for many, like Toledo single mom of three, Jacqueline Hyter, it's hurting.

Local accountant Charles Heid said he understands people want, and in many cases need, their stimulus money now. But you might be surprised to learn if that check or direct deposit doesn't show up by the end of the year, you'll still get the money.

"If you don't get it by December, that's fine," he said. "That just means when you file your 2020 tax return in early 2021, on that form, there's a new credit tied to the CARES act."

But that doesn't help many eligible Americans trying to get the help to which they're entitled. Heid said the IRS is definitely overwhelmed right now, but so are Americans like  Hyter. She's still working luckily, but stresses she could really use the money.

"I'm a single mother with three kids, so you can imagine the struggle prior to a pandemic," she said, "add a little pandemic on that and we have a nightmare."

And she's not alone. Hyter helps run a Facebook group called the Forgotten Fifteenthers. The name represents everyone eligible for the economic relief who filed taxes in the last two years but didn't get a check on April 15 when it started.

Hyter explained she filed 2018 and 2019 returns but still needed to add bank information. She did that on April 15 but still hasn't gotten anything.

"From that time, what are we 32, 33 days in, I have had the same message, you are eligible, we will update with a date and we will deposit into the account ending in such and such," she said, "but no change."

Heid explains, unfortunately, there's not much Hyter and others in the same position can do but wait.

"They need to continue to monitor the IRS website, check payment, review those FAQs," he said.

Hyter said she will continue to research, post and answer questions in the Facebook group until everyone has their payment.

"We're going to keep it going until everyone gets the help they need," she said.
