4 people hospitalized after south Toledo apartment fire

Eight people in total were rescued from the building on Eastgate Road, according to a Toledo fire spokesperson. The cause of the fire is known at this time.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Four people were hospitalized with minor injuries after a fire at an apartment building in south Toledo Friday evening, a Toledo Fire & Rescue Department spokesperson told WTOL 11.

Eight people in total were rescued and residents of the Andover Apartments building on Eastgate Road, just south of Heatherdowns Boulevard, will be temporarily displaced, the spokesperson said.

The entire apartment building has been evacuated and 18 people will need assistance from the Red Cross.

The fire started on the lower floors and crews responded around 7:30 p.m. The cause is not known at this time.

The spokesperson initially told WTOL 11 around 8:30 p.m. that three people were hospitalized as a precaution.

According to a Toledo police report, arson investigators responded to the scene.
