TOLEDO, Ohio — A south Toledo elementary school is opening its doors each month to help those in the surrounding community who are in need.
Reynolds Hub Community Closet at Reynolds Elementary on Norwich Road is open to anyone in the community who is in need of:
- Clothes
- Shoes
- Outer wear (hats, gloves, coats)
- Personal care items
- Household items
- Non-perishable food
Reynolds Hub is just one part of Toledo Public Schools’ “Schools as Community Hubs” initiative.
TPS's community hubs program aim to centralize access to resources for local communities and collaborate with local businesses and services to respond to the needs of a school’s surrounding neighborhood, according to TPS.
Other community hubs are centered around Jones Leadership Academy, Escuela SMART Adademy, Pickett Academy, Riverside Elementary, Rogers High School, and Scott High School.
Zahra Collins, who is the Community Hub Director at Reynolds, says the pantry’s grand opening event on Saturday showed the need in the community for these kinds of resources.
“The food went within the first half an hour, so there is a need, and the community is grateful for it,” said Collins. “We’re appreciative to be able to help them out.”
The pantry is open every fourth and fifth Saturday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Reynolds Hub partners with Pathway for Successful Leadership, Mt Zion Church, and Rachel’s Closet to stock the pantry.
