St. John's Jesuit High School & Academy to hold 'Day of Peace'

The 'Day of Peace' will be in remembrance of the Hamas attack on Israel one year ago.

TOLEDO, Ohio — On Monday, Oct. 7, St. John's Jesuit High School and Academy will be having a student led 'Day of Peace' to acknowledge the one year anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel.

The goal for the day is to create a nonpolitical atmosphere and for everyone to consider the suffering on all sides of the ongoing war.

During all lunch periods from 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of St. John Berchmans, a prayer service and candle lighting ceremony will take place. Christian, Jewish, and Muslim prayers will be read for peace. Prayer displays, a world map and a prayer box will be outside the chapel to give students the opportunity to submit and commemorate privately.

The following is the objective written by St. John's Jesuit students for Monday's remembrance:

“Regardless of where one stands in relation to the conflicts in Ukraine and Russia, Israel and Gaza, Africa, elsewhere, or closer to home in the United States, we have much to hope for. We have hope that peace will prevail. We have hope that wars will end. We have hope that our humble prayers will allow the Spirit of God to penetrate our humanity. However, we cannot forget to solemnly recall that our world is hurting.”
